When I was a little girl, my mother used to read this book to me very often. In my opinion, this picture book is great for parents to read to their children. One of the reasons I really enjoy this book is because of the overall message it gives to the reader. That message is that you're never too old to remind your children or your parents how much you truly love them. The author is able to convey how much the mother in this book loves her son. Another reason this book is enjoyable is because when the mother gets very old, the son comes to her side and sings the same song that his mother used to sing to him all throughout his life. And then when he has a child of his own, he sings that song to his baby in order to express the love he has for him/her.

A classic. Should be read as a song. Tackles growing older, everlasting familial bonds, consistent love.

Great sentimental book about a mother saying the same thing to her son every night and when she can no longer because she is so old, her son then holds her and says the saying to her and then he does it to his son.

This book will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first book I read to my daughter when she was born. I have to fight the tears every time I read it, but I love it. It's a great book to show the dynamic between a mother and child - as well as the inevitable circle of life.

This book is about a loving mother who watches over her son. Through the good times and bad she always loves her baby. This book shows that a mother's love in unconditional and that family is very important. It teaches you the value of love and family.

I absolutely adored this book!!! It is one of my favorites along with Little Effie's Book Of Poetry by Nina Jean Slack, The Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park and many more...too many to name. But this book made me smile so much. Love you forever is a must read.

This is one of those childhood books that will stay in your head once you have read it whether for good or for bad. The writing is easy and repetitive but it keeps the theme of the story together while presenting it in an easy-to-understand format for children how much a parent's love can be. I work for a call center when I am not reading and reviewing while I have had one customer who reminds me of the book's mama. She told me that when she gets angry she always tells her child, "I love you always but right now I don't like you." The concept of loving and liking are two different things but in our society even though we can relate with irascible children we don't seem to really put much stock in either idea. And the pictures are bright and colorful as they follow the aging of the child whether he is up to flushing his mother's watch, being a crazy teen or even taking care of his own home. The cats within the story are strange looking but so adorable that I try to see what they are up to in the pictures of each page.... For a book that is so deep in my conscious and heart I known there are a few oddities in it, which stand out even more once you have grown. Perhaps it is these oddities that are making it so hard to find in the store anymore while it doesn't seem like the book has been banned yet. The only thing that I can say about these oddities is we don't know what happened to the father - he could have died, abandoned the family, be working a job where he is never home, never been a part of the family, etc. We also don't know how the mom treated the son throughout the whole day so for all we know she could have told him she loved him a hundred times a day instead of just at night so I don't think there should be any judging on some aspects of the story. So if the book is creepy by today's standards why do so many love it? It is emotionally deep - there are those of us from broken homes who wished we had a parent who showed us how much they truly cared for us and for others they can see their beloved parents in how the mom bonded with her child. It is a way of showing us that even though sometimes we can't see the love our parents have for us sometimes it is through something they do when we aren't really paying attention - for you it maybe putting a smiley sticker on a lunch bag, writing a note or even singing that special lullaby even when your child has gotten too old. And it is also the fact that these special bonding factors may be what we do for our children down the road. I know that there are some who fretted since it was a woman and her son then the son and his daughter but there is a beautiful song by Reba McEntire called "I'll Be". Within the song it shows three generations of females without a father figure. And although it doesn't include sneaking over town to climb through a winter it just shows how much our parents are there for us to help pick us up and love us no matter the trauma we face in life.

I know, a lot of people love this book. But climbing through your adult son's window and crawling on the floor to peek over the bed while he sleeps is stalkerish behavior and creepy. If my mother-in-law was doing that I would need to set some serious boundaries and ask her to use the front door, but only during daylight. Maybe that's why he's sleeping in his own bed by the end of the book. I don't know, but there are plenty of healthier ways to let your children know you love them as they get older...don't act like a freaking robber in the middle of the night. Gives me the heebie jeebies!

This book was creepy and weird. For those who think that people who don't like this book just don't understand...uh, we understand AND we still don't like the book. Crawling into your teenage son's room, picking him up, rocking him = creepy and weird. Climbing a ladder to enter your adult son's room through a window = creepy and weird. This book reminded me of "Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin, but I like the song and it's message better.

Loving your child always = normal

I throughly enjoyed reading this book for many reasons. First, I really connected with the story. For example, in the story, the mom sings the song, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you always, As long as I'm living my baby you'll be." to her son every night as he grows up. My mom used to sing a song to me when I was younger and I really connected to this aspect of the story. Second, the illustrations helped me feel for the mother in the story. They helped me follow along with the story and the boy who grew up. For example, whenever the mother sang the song, the author drew the mother holding her child. This helped me connect to the song. The overall message of the book is family is forever and traditions are important to keep within the family.

Love You Forever was one of the greatest book I had read to me as a child. It is a wonderful story about a mother and her baby boy growing together. Every night the mother rocks her baby back and forth to get him to go to sleep, all the while singing him a simple rhyme. As the boy grows, the roles are reversed and he ends up taking care of his mother. The beautiful illustrations help to bring the story of the mother and her son to life. You find yourself falling in love with their relationship as you read. This is what my mother used to read to me as a child and I will end up reading it to my children someday. It is a simple and endearing book that shows the importance of family.

This is a beautiful story about a mother and son relationship. This is one of my favorites growing up and my mom read it to me over and over. This is a good mentor text for mothers day or fathers day for the students to do an extension on or write a poem following this authors structure.

This was such a sweet book!

    " I'll love you forever,
    I'll like you for always,
    As long as I'm living
    my baby you'll be"

A mother repeats this phrase to her son at night, continuing this as he grows up. Parents of even older children can relate. No matter how old they get, they are still yours and you love them.
This books shows that through good times and bad and has such a sweet, tender ending that should touch everyone's heart.

There is one part that is a bit disturbing with the mom even sneaking into the "boy's" home when he is an adult to continue so sooth him in his sleep. While the literal sense of this is....unusual to say the least, the concept the book holds is very true. For me to this day, my mother still calls me her "Munchkin" and has admitted that even having kids of my own I will still be her little girl. No matter what I do or go through she loves me. And that is the message I love about this book.

When I first saw this I half wondered what it was about and hoped it was not about toilet training. Lucky for me I it wasn't. This book is a treasure and a perfect book to read before bed. and the quote about is utterly endearing. Try it with your own child!

Love, love this book! A must-have for all parents to read to their children and grandparents to read to their grandchildren. Every child must know this story.

This book has special meaning to our family because my grandfather read this book to his mother every day while she was sick until the day she died. It brings a tear to everyone in our family even now. You need to know you're loved whether you are young or old and this book will tell you.

Okay, I know, I know, giving this book five stars is about the laziest throwaway rating possible, and there may be some who prefer the lack of illusions in The Giving Tree, which shows this kind of absolute devotion stripped of its gauze, but the fact that Munsch here gets away with the soft-focus treatment is salutary. There is a time for sentimentality, and it is reading this book. Emmett loves to sway back and forth, back and forth, back and forth with the mother and her son and sing along with the song, although I have to be careful not to read it to him nights when his mum's at work or he gets distressed. I love the mum's big eyes when she sneaks up to her kid's bed, and how late-eighties the kid is in all the drawings (all "Sunny D! Thanks mom!") and I love that there's no going back, and as long as I'm living, my baby Emmett will be. It focuses the mind. It means--not that the book gets into these waters, because it is a paean to one bond and one only--that every day I need to get up and try hard to smile and bear up under all the anger and bad blood that his mum and I can't seem to overcome, because he's her baby forever too. Robert Munsch wrote this book after he lost his baby. It gets five stars.

A book about a young boy's stages of life. All throughout his mother sings to him "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be." The roles reverse when his mother becomes to old to sing the song. He signs to his mother that night which gives him the idea to sing the song to his baby daughter.

This is a beautiful and heartfelt story about a mother's love for her son. The mother rocks her son every night even as he grows older and sings "I love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be" until she was too old and sick to sing it, and then her son did it for her saying that she'd always be his mom. The illustrations in this book use beautiful soft colors and it appears to be done in colored pencil. Teachers could use this book when talking about families or loving others. They could have students write a poem using this phrase for someone they love.

ILL LOVE YOU FOREVER is a simple book that tells the story of a mother's love for her son. It shows the boy from a baby all the way through his teenage years to him as a grown up. Whenever the boy was sleeping no matter how bad of a day it was she would go in and hold him and sing about how much she loves him. She gets older and can no longer hold her son. But the boy has his own daughter one day and as he holds her he sings about how much he loves her. The illustrations of this book are realistic and with much color. The relationship aspect in this book is relatable to many children. Then for the son to continue the tradition with his child is a cultural aspect. Students can learn the importance of tradition and strong relationships. I would use this book not for a lesson but for a simple read aloud.

This book is one of my favorites. I think that it is easy for readers to relate to this story and to the bond that the mother and son share. The way this story is written is engaging, as well as moving. For example, throughout the story the mother repeats to the son "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living, My baby you'll be." This becomes really meaningful later when the son repeats it to his dying mother instead. These words can evoke powerful emotions in the reader, pushing them to think about the strong bond between a mother and son. Looking at the big picture, this story demonstrates what it means to be family. Your family will always be there for you.

This book is so amazing. It really tugs at the heart strings as it was a book I was read throughout my entire childhood. It is such a sweet book about a mother always loving her son, and then in the end of life the son loving and taking care of his mother. It is hard not to read this book without choking up and I think that most people feel that way about it.

Quite possibly the sweetest book ever written from a parent to their child...this book makes you want to call your mom and tell her you love her. "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." True parents don't really have a choice...you just love your kids.

This is a beautiful and highly realistic (although, a little far fetched when she climbs in his room, as an adult, to rock him) look at the unconditional love of a mother for her child and the returned love he has for her. This reminds me of how, no matter how old my daughter gets, she will always be my baby, I will always want to protect her, and I will love her (even when I don't like her).

This is hands down my favorite children's book and I still read it to this day. I think it has defined a generation when it was published but it can also be read no matter what generation you come from. It is one of those stories that relates to anyone who is a parent or a child. The author tells the message of growing-up from the point of view of the mother and the son. But what makes this story unique is that the plot comes to a full circle by the end. At first the mom is telling the son the "Ill love you forever, Ill love you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." The story has a rhythm and repetition that also makes the book easy to read along with. But the unique part is that at the end of the story the son is all grown up and the mom is old so the son says the poem to the mother. It is one of those stories that connects to its readers on a very personal level which is what makes it great.

Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite children's picture books because my mom used to read it to me and sing me the song everyday. I love it! I love that there is an accompanying song, because it makes the meaning much stronger. Also, I like the generational piece of the story in which the mother becomes a grandmother. Any mother from any walk of life and any child can relate to the love that is felt in families as the family grows. The main idea of this story is the strength of love in families, especially between mother and child.
  • Évaluation : 3 sur 5 étoiles

This is really more a book for mothers than it is a book for toddlers/preschoolers. There are so many things wrong with this book. The story, the way it's told is a bit psychotic. The illustrations are awful, see for instance the very distasteful front cover. And the pictures of the mother crawling into the room are creepy and weird. The relationship between the child and the mother does not come through as a warm one.

I kind of felt guilty reading this to my son. He was patient with me however, he understood it was a book about love, and he liked repeating "love you forever". But, really, it's just daunting to read it to the end with your child, and I apprehended the kind of questions he might ask, when we came to that part. I feel quite ambivalent about the degree to which children need to know that we're not going to be there forever for them. So, with this in mind, I can't really recommend the book to anyone. As a tearjerker, on the other hand, the book is very effective, I can barely think about it even without getting all wet eyed. I therefore bumped my rating up a star.
