Michael Schoonover is a 71 years old retired elementary school teacher, principal, and former pastor from a small town in rural West Virginia. He grew up on a farm, in a Christian family with two older sisters and one younger brother. His Christian father and mother provided the discipline, guidance, and necessary work ethics needed for surviving in an ever changing, unforgiving world.
It was L. Michael’s father who anchored the home in God’s values, extending the blessing at all meals. Before any of the family retired in the evening at bedtime, his father would pray aloud for the watch care of the heavenly Father upon the family while faithfully thanking God for the blessings and care for the past day.
Reminiscence of over sized gardens that provided more than adequate free produce for those near and far is vividly remembered from times spent with his mother. Relatives, friends, and neighbors periodically congregated at the farm for not only produce, but Christian fellowship through the sharing of musical talents.
The joint efforts of several Christian women, led by his mother, would always prepare a smorgasbord of food for the unscheduled, “after church service get togethers” on the farm. Children played and laughed loudly. Gospel music echoed from his mother’s pounding of the piano. Guitar pickers would join in as everyone but the kids harmonized hymns from the heart. It was a “loud and rowdy time” for the Lord’s children! (Dion Boucicault, 1820-1890).
It is for the memory of his mother and father that L. Michael dedicates this book. May all who read this book, enjoy it as much as L. Michael did, in penning the words under the auspices of the Holy Spirit.voir moins
