A Member of the Order of Canada and a life member and former president of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery, Newman is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Gemini lifetime achievement award, the Charles Lynch Award for Outstanding Coverage of National Affairs and the Hy Solomon Award for Excellence in Public Policy Journalism.
