John was born in 1943 into a working class family, and was brought up by his grandparents. After primary school he attended Norden secondary modern school where he started his writing, composing prayers for morning assembly and editing the school newspaper. After leaving school at the age of 15 he became an apprentice cabinetmaker. In 1962 he married his first wife with whom he had two sons Stephen and David. In 1964 he joined the Army serving in Northern Ireland, Germany and Cyprus, where he was stationed in 1974 when the Turkish invasion happened. Having left the Army, he joined Greater Manchester Police serving for eight and a half years. Having left the police he became a bingo caller until he retired, It was at this point he took up his pen again and started writing. He continues to enjoy writing, encouraged by his third wife Gretta. He lives quietly with his wife and six cats.voir moins
