He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Wofford College in 1959 and a Ph.D. in international studies in 1972 from USC Columbia. A US Army veteran, Sansbury spent thirteen months as an administrative officer in Vietnam between March 1962 and March 1963. Before embarking on his academic career, he was a television newsman and editorial writer for WBTW in Florence. Sansbury first taught at USC Florence and Coastal Carolina in Conway. When the Florence campus was converted into Francis Marion College, he became the first dean of students at the new institution. In May 1973, Sansbury was named the chief administrative officer at USC Spartanburg, then a two-year regional campus. When he retired twenty years later the institution was a baccalaureate campus already approved for graduate degrees. After retiring from USCS as Chancellor Emeritus, Sansbury served as executive director of the Greenville Symphony for five years. During 2004-2008, he was a visiting professor in government at Wofford College. Sansbury continues to offer courses in Wofford’s Lifelong Learning Program, while currently living in Tryon, NC, with his wife Mary Ann Claud, a novelist.voir moins
