William and ...voir plusI was born into a Nova Scotian family of community and spiritual workers. In my youth I assumed that everyone had access to this type of healing family environment. My parents Dr. Rev. William and Dr. Pearleen Oliver, as local leaders, stayed focused for 60 years providing service to the peoples of Nova Scotia communities.As I became more aware that my family situation was unique, I started to explore ways of extending my experiences to others. In High School I worked as a Halifax playground student councilor and joined an experimental Children's Theatre Group “Rainbow Theatre”. This unique experience opened me up to the world of drama, art and dance. During this time period I participated in the NFB youth film production program.In my early twenties I travelled to Toronto, Ontario and joined the Toronto Dance Theatre and studied electronic music at the University of Toronto. It was during this period that I worked with various healing arts. (Alexandra Technique, Kundalini Yoga and various meditation techniques). I completed all the requirements for the Ontario Board of Massage Therapist.In the mid-seventies, I met Master Moi, the founder of the Taoist Association of Canada and began my study of Tai Chi. On my return to Halifax in the eighties, I continued my study of Tai Chi, under the guidance of Master Moi but also completed studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.In 2008, I combined my experiences and founded the Lower Sackville Wellness Centre. The Wellness Centre offered shared office spaces for Health Professionals and a workshop area for Tai Chi, Meditation and other wellness related workshops. As part of the promotion of the Wellness Centre, I completed the CBC Center for Art tapes film production classes and projects.In 2012 I resigned from the Lower Sackville Wellness Centre. The centre continues under the guidance of the practitioners. My current focus is on Community Health and Wellness Programming (CHWP). I offer Health and Wellness consultation and programming to community centers, organizations and individuals.Current clients include the HomeBrigde Youth Society, The Windsor Elms Village, The Queens Manor, Sackville Heights Community Centre, The Wallace Lucas Community Center, private classes and clients.In partnership with St. Mary’s University Continuing Education Department, Halifax Nova Scotia, we are creating a new Health and Wellness certificate courses. Graduates will work in a variety of setting such as schools, community centers, long term care facilities, corporations and offer independent private services.voir moins
