allowed to work; surviving on donations and without a place
to stay. I slept under newspapers on open land. Yet in
Zimbabwe I was a lecturer, a trainer of teachers
and co-author of the People Making History text book
series. But even after being granted asylum I still cannot
get a professional job. I appeal to people in host countries
to give asylum seekers a chance to contribute to the
development of their new homes, even where the stay may be
