His doctoral supervisor is Prof. Wenqing Qin. Prof. Yang was a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Environment of Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) in 2015.12-2018.06. Since 2018, he has been working at Central South University as an associate professor. His research interest focuses on mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, electronic waste treatment, and metals recycling and sustainability.
