It hasn’t exactly been plain sailing for Le Grand Rex since it opened in 1932, but it’s managed to stay the course. Despite the passing decades, it’s stayed afloat while other of the city’s large movie theaters have sunk without trace.
The world of movies has changed, and the tastes of audiences with it, but Le Grand Rex has managed to go with the flow andwith its star-spangled ceiling, Eastern-inspired Baroque decors, like a palace from One Thousand and One Nights, making it among the most unusual movie theaters in the world, and the most charming. It was a bold choice, and it’s still what makes it special today.
